What are the different types of insulation?

Foam board or rigid foam insulation is only able to be used during new construction or major renovation when walls are being torn out because it requires a few additional layers for fireproofing.  It may be a longer installation process to install each insulation board, but it is a very effective form of insulation.

Blow in insulation or loose fill insulation is best suited for filling in areas and gaps of areas that are already insulated much like spray insulation.  If you are looking for the most sound proof insulation type, then this is the most effective choice.  Some brands and products may be better than others, so it might be worth the time to do some research if sound proofing is important to you.
